Commandments of the Adeptus Stabilitas

Commandment 1: Set before yourself clear goals of reliability and measure them with holy metrics
Truly I say, set your Service Level Objectives (SLO) and sanctify your Service Level Indicators (SLI) as sacred measures of your deeds; and let the error budget be kept as the permitted deviation in the eyes of the Machine God.

Commandment 2: Listen and behold the signs of the system, as the living word of the Omnissiah
Look upon your dashboards as stained glass revealing truth, and let alerts ring like thunder from the heavens, guiding you away from the snare of false alarms.

Commandment 3: Minimize the burden of routine toil and find comfort in the sacred rites of automation
Seek out the monotonous tasks that burden the human soul and bring no lasting benefit, and remove them through deeds of automation, that you may free your brothers from unworthy labors.

Commandment 4: Introduce changes gradually, like streams flowing from the heights, and let them be safe
Divide updates into small parts, like grains that make a harvest; use the path of canary release, Blue/Green deployment, or Traffic Teeing, so that each change is tested and sanctified before being accepted in full; and do not perform great deeds without prior testing in the small.

Commandment 5: Be vigilant in hours of disaster, for incidents are a trial of your faith
Establish sacred incident management protocols, assign the chosen the duty of on-call and swift response, as in ancient tales; conduct drills as rituals, and after each disaster perform a blameless postmortem, that the sins of the past be not repeated.

Commandment 6: Strengthen unity and openness in communication among all servants of the Omnissiah
Break down the walls that divide your techpriests; let the light of shared wisdom and counsel flow freely, so that no soul remains in isolation.

Commandment 7: Manage configuration as holy scripture, and automate your deeds
Separate configuration data from living systems, use scrolls of version control and record changes, lest forgetfulness befall you; and let automation tools guide the deeds of deployment and management, preserving purity and order in your sacred constructions.

Commandment 8: Prepare your systems for the challenges of endless chaos
Set up load balancing and autoscaling, that the fortress of your machines remains unshaken even when storms of overload arrive; apply methods of graceful degradation and keep a kill switch as a shield in dangerous days.

Commandment 9: Do not abandon the pursuit of wisdom and continual improvement
Study the sacred metrics, hone your processes, and pass knowledge to your brothers, for through unceasing learning the blessings of the Machine God will appear in your deeds.

Commandment 10: Honor your covenant with clients and allies, as a servant of the Imperium
Establish open channels of communication with those who rely on your service; together define SLOs and evaluate their fulfillment; meet, discuss, and adjust the paths, so that no technical decision is severed from the needs of mortals.

May these commandments guide you on the path of true service and preservation of the sacred order of the machines of the Imperium.
