When I retire, I’ll release an electronic handpan in a fidget toy format. For on-call shifts and architects.
Project: “Lune” — Pocket Sound Orbital
Description: An ultra-minimalist, palm-sized gadget. Round, flat, made of matte anodized aluminum with soft silicone inserts. On the surface there are 8 touch zones arranged in a circle, like on a handpan. When touched, each zone generates a clean, transparent handpan tone with smooth decay. Built-in mini drivers create micro-vibration for tactile feedback.
Functions:
- Touch zones with varying sensitivity
- 3 sound modes: handpan / bells / low humming drone
- Silent mode — vibration feedback only
- Support for a “mindful circle” — you can play sounds in order, like a mantra
Materials:
- Body: anodized aluminum
- Touch areas: polished silicone with a velvety texture
- Acoustics: built-in sound resonators + piezo plates
How to use: Just hold it in your hand and run your finger around the circle or press the zones — it creates a ritual-like feeling. After 30 seconds, a soft fade-out mode turns on to help end the session.
Extra: You can connect headphones or use it as a standalone sound object on a desk. Power — USB-C, 8 hours of battery life. No Bluetooth, no screen, maximum quiet.
