Kubernetes v1.37 moves the core Workload and PodGroup APIs and gang scheduling, scheduling in which a Pod group is placed as a whole or not placed at all, to Beta.

The version adds CompositePodGroup API, an interface for describing hierarchical Pod groups. It lets users express multi-level topology constraints, gang scheduling, and preemption policies for complex heterogeneous Pod groups.

For out-of-tree controllers, Kubernetes adds controller integration APIs and workloadbuilder, a Go library that builds scheduling objects. Kubernetes says these components simplify out-of-tree controller integration with workload-aware scheduling.

Claim check:

  • Kubernetes v1.37 moves the core Workload and PodGroup APIs and gang scheduling to Beta. (confirmed by the publication itself: evidence; «In this release, the core Workload and PodGroup APIs—enabling gang scheduling—along with Workload-Aware Preemption (WAP) and shared DRA ResourceClaims for PodGroups, all graduate to Beta, solidifying their role in the Kubernetes ecosystem.»)
  • Kubernetes v1.37 adds CompositePodGroup API for multi-level topology constraints, gang scheduling, and preemption policies in complex heterogeneous Pod groups. (confirmed by the publication itself: evidence; «To address the hierarchical scheduling requirements of modern high-performance distributed workloads, v1.37 introduces the new CompositePodGroup API. This new API allows expressing multi-level topology constraints, gang scheduling, and preemption policies for complex, heterogeneous groups of Pods.»)
  • Kubernetes v1.37 adds controller integration APIs and the workloadbuilder Go library to simplify out-of-tree controller integration with workload-aware scheduling. (confirmed by the publication itself: evidence; «Alongside these API additions, v1.37 focuses on streamlining adoption by introducing a new set of controller integration APIs and the workloadbuilder Go library. These provide standardized building blocks that significantly simplify how out-of-tree controllers can integrate with WAS capabilities.»)
