I’m kind of tired of the fact that on macOS I can translate text, fix it, or make a summary in one click, while on the phone I have to do all that by copying text from one app to another and writing prompts.

Sketched a first version of an Apple Shortcut for translating to English via OpenAI. The algorithm is:

  • install the shortcut
  • open it in edit mode and specify your OpenAI token
  • open any app
  • select text
  • in the pop-up selector choose share
  • if a miracle happened, the result is already in the clipboard and you just paste

I don’t know how the Apple Shortcut development process went, but it’s utterly cursed. No primitives for readability, like naming blocks or a scheme of connections between blocks. Editing lags even on macOS. Everything is done through blocks — without a separate block you can’t even get variable values. When you open editing on macOS, variable types break. And sometimes IF breaks. But there is a block for getting an emoji name!
